The shoreline of lakes and riverbanks along the Qu’Appelle waterways and some Northern Saskatchewan waters are reflected in these works. Some include birds common to the area or a canoe, symbolic of the Canadian wilderness.

As the name implies, Reflections Series is about the reflection of landscape, shoreline and sky in water. In most pieces I eliminated the landscape itself, concentrating instead on light, colour and movement across the surface of the water as expressed on the surface of the canvas. Some paintings include iconic images of Canada. Many layers of acrylic glazes, gels and pour medium are used to create these effects.

This time of unprecented social isolation due to the covid virus allowed me time and freedom to explore the notion of portraiture. Ideas came first: forms of expression followed. I pondered life’s vagaries and blessings. The Destiny Series was born celebrating the lives of Women at all ages and stages. Destiny: the inevitable course of events.
Untamed: impossible to subdue or defeat.
This painting celebrates the seasons of life. From the green of youth to autumn tones suggesting aging. Full lips represent sensuality; elongated neck vulnerability and trust. The crow is change; the dove new possibilities. This woman is saying-live life to the fullest!

Untamed: impossible to subdue or defeat.
The seasons of life are represented here by the changing colors. Green for youth; autumn colors for aging, The lips represent sensuality and vitality, the long neck vulnerabilty and trust-qualities of woman. The crow symbolizes change, dynamic, wild, wise.

This piece celebrates the mature woman who lives with energy and dignity. The gold color is derived from illuminated manuscripts and holy cards prevalent in times past.

Motherhood - a glorious very busy time of life. Women are mother, wife, daughter, sister, grand daughter, aunt, friend : roles requiring much give and take.

How do Prairie women survive our long cold Canadian winters in a Covid era? We curl up with books, hot tea, a pet and wrap ourselves in dreams of summer. Rest that refreshes!

Prior to Covid air travel restrictions I took photos through the window on a return trip from Arizona. A number are of the Qu’Appelle Valley in winter. One photo showing the frozen river and coulees became the pouffy coat . I was thinking of my grand daughter at university who took 2 years of online classes and relied on social media for contact.

The Covid era has changed our life. Masking, vaccines, social isolation, reliance on digital media and cell phones for contact have become a way of living. This painting emphasizes our shared experiences and need for staying connected in these unusual times - alone together.

"En Plein Air" is a term borrowed from the French meaning "open (in full) air". It is used to describe outdoor painting from observation.
I painted en plein air using oils and watercolour at Emma Lake, Morning Lake and the Qu'Appelle Valley in Saskatchewan. In the Bahamas I used quick drying watercolour and ink as I needed breaks from the heat. On location for a few weeks at a time enabled me to complete some rather extensive work. Personal comfort aside, I find painting outdoors rewarding as the constraints force spontaneity, quick strokes and immediate response to the light. The outcome is usually fresh and worth the effort.
The Impressionists of the 19th C and Canada's Group of Seven were avid en plein air painters.

One of the richest motifs in the visual arts has been the open window. In 2009, I completed 20 paintings in acrylic on canvas using the window motif to celebrate life and the seasons on the Canadian Prairies.
Each painting combines landscape as seen through a window and still life with a table and background of seasonal images and colours. I also included narrative consisting of phrases or lines of my poetry as I consider this work a somewhat romanticized view of life. To further this concept, I used gold and silver leaf and titled the series "Once Upon a Season".
I hope this work stirs the senses and invokes happy memories of life, time and place. In 2011, the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art, New York, held an exhibition "Rooms With a View: the Open Window in the 19th Century".

UNCHARTED is a series in oil on lexan exploring the idea of Family, Community and Belonging. “Home” can be what the heart longs for but sometimes it is not what it appears to be. But always it is where the heart wants to be.
Color is symbolic and holds emotional value. Red suggests love, blood and passion. Yellow evokes hope and the spiritual. Blue is contradiction: behold and beware.
Artist Wassily Kandinsky said “Color is a power which directly influences the soul.”
