Water is an important aspect of my work painted in an expressive manner. In "Reflections" I eliminated the shoreline and countryside and focused on the movement of water and the way colour and light is reflected.

I build layers of acrylic glaze to add depth and apply various gels and mediums. Working with palette knives and brushes, I add and scrape away paint, pour and drip to get the desired effect.  Due to our long Saskatchewan winters, I work mainly from photographs and remembered response to a time and place.

It may seem odd for a prairie dweller to paint water,  but I live on a lake and my home province, as most of Canada,  has hundreds of lakes. I have made several trips  to Caribbean Islands and have an appreciation for this life-sustaining element.  My country, as do many, has a less than proud history of how we use our waterways.  When my lake was declared unfit for swimming a few summer's ago, I was prompted to respond with a show "Cry Me a River" in Fort Qu'Appelle in July, 2014.  I hope my work will challenge the viewer's  notion of landscape and management of  this resource.
